Marjorie Moats

Marjorie Louise Honce Moats, 83, wife of the late Russell M. Moats, formerly of Galloway, WV, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014, in Conway, SC. Born on December 27, 1930, in Philippi, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes ( Sements) Honce Sr. Marjorie lived most of her life in Galloway, WV and in her later years moved to South Carolina with her daughters. Marjorie was a graduate of Philippi High School, class of 1949. She was a member of both Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in North Myrtle Beach and St.Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Philippi where she had an active role in the Altar and Rosary Society. Mrs. Moats is survived by her children, Charlotte Watkins (Terry), and Tena Vernon (Richard) both of North Myrtle Beach, SC; two grandsons, Jared Watkins of Seattle, Washington and Scott Bartlett (Judy) of Charlotte, North Carolina; four great- grand children, Grant, Raegan, Cole, and Luke Bartlett. She is predeceased by three sisters, Helen Cook, Agnes Steele and Olga Purkey and one brother Joe Honce Jr. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Thursday April 3, from 1-8 pm. A vigil service will be held at 7:30 pm. Visitation will resume on Friday April 4, from 8-9:30 am. A funeral mass will be held at 10 am at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Fr. Jim O’Connor as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

  1. Dear Charlotte and Tina and Families,. We are sorry for the passing of your Mom. We know that you all will miss her, so very much, you will have the memories of her and she will forever live in your hearts. Wish that we could be there for the funeral, but health reasons will not allow us to travel. May you Rest in Peace, Aunt Margie. Julia, Les and family.

  2. Our deepest sympathies in the loss of your dear Mother. I'm sure she is at rest now with our dear Lord. We live in Fairfax, VA and cannot come in for the service. Mom sends her regrets as we do not have your address and she is unable to attend, now at 91 years old.

  3. I'm very sorry for your loss. I always liked Margie. She was so nice and a lot of fun at the A&R dinners.
