Marvin Franklin Daugherty, age 83, a resident of Moatsville, WV, passed away on Monday, May 18 at home following a brief illness.
He is survived by sisters Mary M. (William F. “Bucky”) Poling of Moatsville, WV and Linda K. (Richard) Cullins of Annapolis, MD, and a brother, Frederick S. (Carmen) Daugherty of Philippi. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, William F. (Amanda Ferguson) Poling, Jr. and Edward L. (Sara) Poling of Moatsville, Stacy (Scott) Aylor of Fairmont, WV, LaDonna Dutton of Pittsburgh, PA, Charles (Beverly) Daugherty of Akron, OH, Cindy Brill of Barberton OH, Angela (Guy) DeSilvio of Ackworth, GA, Russell Daugherty of Norton, OH, Alvin (Holly) Daugherty, Jr. of Raleigh, NC, Bernard (Lisa) Daugherty of Ravena, OH, Peggy (Randy) Ashelman of North Canton, OH, Richard (Kathy) Daugherty of Deltona, FL, and William (Kerry) Daugherty of Akron, OH. He is also survived by many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Bernard B. Daugherty, Lloyd D. Daugherty, and Alvin W. Daugherty and by nephews Roger D. Daugherty and Steven F. Daugherty.
He was born May 13, 1932 in Buffalo, New York, a son of the late Boyce and Phyllis Daugherty. He grew up in the Union Community of Barbour County and attended Union Grade School and Philippi High School. As a young man, Frank traveled to different states and was a painter. Later in life, he became ill and returned to Philippi to live with his parents and later, for the twenty years preceding his death, to Moatsville where he lived with his sister and brother-in-law, Bucky and Mary Poling. He enjoyed doing lawn and garden work and assisting with household chores. Frank was a gentle man who loved children and animals. His six great nieces and nephews, Nathaniel, Gage, Emma, Chandler, Audrey, and Ashley Poling, all who lived next door to Frank in Moatsville, had the good fortune of knowing and loving their “Uncle Frank.”
Wright Funeral Home has been entrusted with final arrangements. At the request of the deceased and immediate family members, following cremation a private family graveside memorial service will be scheduled for a later date at Barbour Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Frank’s love for animals, the family suggests that memorial donations be sent to Animal Friends of Barbour County, PO Box 452, Philippi WV 26416.
