Mary Jane (Menefee) Phillips, age 94, a resident of White Oak Community went home to be with the Lord, her husband and son for Christmas. Mrs. Phillips passed away on Monday December 20, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family, under the care of Mountain Hospice. She was born September 6, 1927, a daughter of the late Gusta Perry Menefee and Callie Nestor. Mrs. Phillips was married to her husband the late Estes H. Phillips for 66 years.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by one son, Junior Phillips of Belington, five grandchildren, Patricia Delauder and husband Roger, Buster Phillips and fiancée Cindy Howell, Kenneth C. Phillips II, Glen Phillips and wife Crystal and Jeannie Tusing and husband Doug. She is also survived by 20 great grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Phillips was also preceded in death by her son Kenneth C. Phillips Sr., great grandson Kenneth C. Phillips III, sister, Betty Jean Clark and a daughter-in-law Martha Jean Schoonover Phillips.
Mrs. Phillips was a homemaker for her entire life. She was a member of the American Legion #44 of Philippi for several years. She was an avid baker and loved to feed everyone who came to visit her. She always had a smile on her face, welcoming hands and a caring heart for each and everyone that she knew. She never met a stranger. She attended the Faith and Family Fellowship Church with Pastor Howard Biller who she loved very much. She enjoyed the voice of Pastor Bryan Headley who sang with her.
Mrs. Phillips enjoyed the times playing peek-a-boo, having picnics and getting tucked in every night by her great-great grandson Karson Taylor with a kiss. She received a special care from her nurses she called her family, Lisa Weaver, Terry Yeager, Megan Kaitlin, and direct care worker Marsha, her great-granddaughters, Rogenia Mayle and Tiffany Taylor. She loved the company of her side-kick Kenna Mae, who did not leave her until the end.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Wednesday December 22, from 6-8 pm and on Thursday December 23, from 8- 11:30 am. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 am with Pastor Howard Biller and Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Interment will follow in the WV National Cemetery.
