Mary Lou Wagner age 95, a resident of the Mt. Liberty Community in Philippi, West Virginia passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023 after a long, happy, well-lived life.
May Lou was born on April 24, 1928 to the late Jerome and Dana Stalnaker. After graduating from Belington High School in 1945 she married the love of her life, Russell Wagner who preceded her in death on January 24, 1999.
Surviving are her eldest son, Danny Wagner and wife Joyce of Philippi, daughter Twila Smith of Philippi, daughter Frances Wagner of Philippi; daughter in law, Lori Wagner; her grandchildren: Jessica Salfia and husband Mark; Jonathan Maunz; Katie Cox; Cody Wagner; Vinny Greco and wife Chelsea; Anyssa Greco and husband Rob; Sam Wagner; and Andrew Wagner; and her great-grandchildren: Brady Wagner; Addison, Jayce, and Dominic Salfia; Braxton and Bella Cox; and Nova Smitherman
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Rosemary Wagner; her sons, Phillip Wagner and Jerry Del Wagner; her brother, Leland Stalnaker; her sister, Helen Griffith; and her sister, Dora Lea Beckner.
Mary Lou worked and retired from G.C. Murphy’s Department Store. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a long-time member of the Barbour Church of Christ.
Mary Lou loved nothing more than being with her family and being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved to travel, work puzzles and make crafts, and found great joy in watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren competing in sports or performing in plays. In her later years she was always on the go with her friend and sister-in-law, the late Ruby Wagner, attending Red Hat Society meetings or participating in community service. She loved to have fun, had a keen sense of adventure, was an unbeatable Rook player, and her smile lit up a room.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Wednesday May 31, from 6-8 pm and on Thursday June 1, from 10 am- 1 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm with Pastor Stan Jenkins and Speaker Danny Wagner officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Liberty Cemetery.
