Mary Hazel Wilson, age 106, a resident of Philippi passed away Wednesday January 20, 2010 in the Davis Memorial Hospital. She was born April 27, 1903 in Barbour County a daughter of the late Amos Martin Poling and Amanda Jane (Duckworth) Poling. She was united in marriage on October 29, 1921 to Herbert F. Wilson who preceded her in death May 17, 1974. Surviving is;
One daughter; Joan Nicewarner and late husband Philip Jr (Sonny) of Bridgeport
One daughter-in-law; Dr. Lillian Wilson of Santee, SC
Three grandsons; Paul Richard Wilson and wife Carolyn of Santee, SC
Philip Nicewarner III and wife Ann of Bridgeport
Scott Nicewarner and wife Tressa of Hagerstown, MD
Five great grandsons; Jason, Ryan, and Josh Nicewarner of Bridgeport, Jordan Nicewarner of Hagerstown, MD, Gary Bennett of Charleston, WV
Three great granddaughters; Caitlin Nicewarner of Hagerstown, MD, Bobbi Love of Kansas City, MO Teresa Hodges of Charleston, WV
One great -great grandson; Kyle Love of Kansas City, MO
Mrs. Wilson was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by one son; Blair “Perk” Wilson, two brothers; Homer E. Poling and Thomas Poling, two sisters; Pearl Lutz and Odie Bell Poling.
Mrs. Wilson worked as a manager of the dress department for the G.C. Murphy Company. In 1968 she retired after 25 years of service.
She was a member of the Philippi United Methodist Church , Church choir and the United Methodist Ladies Bible Class. She was a parish delegate to the United Methodist WV conference for a number of years. She was a retired member of the Executive Board of the “Heart and Hand” in 1987.
The family would like to express their gratitude to her caretakers for her last years. Katie and Alfred Roy Howes and Carol Bodkins, for making her last years more comfortable.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Philippi United Methodist church would be appreciated.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday January 22 from 2-8 p.m. and on Saturday January 23, from 8-11 a.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. with Rev. Alicia Rapking officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
