Maxine Carte

Maxine (Bolyard) Carte of Moatsville, WV, passed away at her home on Saturday, November 26, 2022. She was born in Arden, WV on June 20, to the late Roxie and Stanley Bolyard. She was the last surviving member of her family being predeceased by two brothers, William J. and Milton S. Bolyard and one sister Perlina Shaw. Maxine was married twice first to Arnett M. Root and then to Edwin J. Carte. Both preceded her in death. Maxine is survived by three children, Ron Root and wife Cathy of Bluemont, VA, Loretta (Root) Roberts of Bridgeport, WV, and Edwin Carte, Jr. of Moatsville, WV. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Nancy (Root) Botick and husband Paul of Manassas, VA, Eric Root of Martinsburg, WV, Steven Berenik of Bridgeport, WV, Shirley (Berenik) Pratt and husband Denzil of West Union, WV, Michelle (Berenik) Marple and husband Jake of Buckhannon, WV. Maxine is survived by 12 great-grandchildren, 21 great- great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Maxine was a former waitress at Philippi Inn before opening her own beauty shop. She liked farming, being around her family and playing cards with family. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Saturday December 3, from 10am – 1 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm with Pastor Todd Mouser officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.
