Michael Spotloe

December 17, 1917 ~ April 13, 2009

Michael Spotloe Jr. age 91 a resident of Philippi passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday April 13, 2009. He was born on December 17, 1917 in Century, WV a son of the late Michael Sr. and Jane (Dobson) Spotloe. He was united in marriage in 1979 to Barbara (Ward) Spotloe who survives. Also surviving is three daughters; Cathie Rivlin Carolyn and husband Paul Wilson both of SC Sharon Snider of Charleston two sons; Tony and wife Jan Spotloe of Pittsburgh, PA Kevin Spotloe of Philippi one-stepson; John Ward of Philippi one brother; Dave Spotloe of Webster two sisters; Cathryn Maxson of Century Pauline Purtsok of Summersville 13 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren Also surviving the mother of his children, Agnes Payne Spotloe Mike was a member of the Philippi United Methodist Church Mike was preceded in death by one son; Philip Spotloe, one granddaughter; Stacey Ritchie, one Step-Daughter Vicki Ward, and nine brothers and sisters. Mike, known to the music world as JR, certainly was an inspiration to many, many people; especially the group called "The Good Ole Boys" who loved him dearly. His compassion for music and his talent was unbelievable. He definitely was the "Good Ole Boys" hero. When they appeared in various counties the first question asked was, where's JR? He will be sadly missed and with a high profile of admiration, we were blessed with the quality time spent with JR. May the Good Lord Bless and keep you until we meet again. The Good Ole Boys. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi, WV on Wednesday April 15, from 5-8:00 p.m. and on Thursday April 16, from 8-11:00 a.m. the service hour with Rev. Alicia Rapking officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

  2. Just like Jesus, Mike had a heart for people and a smile for everyone. I never heard him say an unkind thing. His gentle spirit will be sorely missed. We celebrate his homegoing knowing that our loss is Heaven's gain, and his beautiful voice is now singing with the angel band.

  4. I was sorry to hear about the passing of Mike. He was a good guy. We got to talk when he was in S.C.last summer and it was really nice to recieve his phone call. My Dad really liked Mike alot. My regrets to the family.
