On September 8, 2024, Patricia Ruth (Rogers) McBee joined her beloved parents, husband, and two of her children at the side of our Lord and Savior.
Patty was born on Guy Street in Elkins, WV on October 16, 1935 to Alice Geraldine (Fansler) Rogers and
John Smith Rogers. At the age of 12, she replaced Minnie Dickinson as pianist of the Elk City United Methodist Church, and remained a faithful member of that congregation for the next seventy plus years. She graduated from Philippi High School in 1952 and West Virginia Business College in 1953, where she proudly held the distinction of the school’s fastest typist at 115 words a minute. Patty was a charter member of the Clarksburg Court No. 3 Order of the Amaranth.
She was employed at Nationwide Insurance until her marriage to Wayne Lee McBee in 1956. Those two lovebirds remained devoted to one another for the next sixty-three years and were blessed with three children; John Wayne in 1958, Lisa Ruth in 1962, and Shane Rogers in 1973.
After her children were grown, Patty served fifteen years as a secretary with the Virginia Department of Forestry. Upon retirement, Patty and Wayne returned to her family farm on Stewarts Run Road, just outside Philippi, WV, where they built a new home and enjoyed the next twenty-five years together. She moved to Wilmington, NC after Wayne’s passing, where she spent the rest of her days making new friends, watching birds at the feeder, or curled up with a good book.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Lee, son John, and daughter Lisa. She is survived by her son Shane and his wife Deny, son-in-law Walter Granados, her three grandchildren; Athenae Granados, Garret McBee, and Ciercy Wey, Ciercy’s husband Jackson, and their daughter Monroe.
Patty Ruth, you will be greatly missed and remembered fondly by those who had the great pleasure of knowing you here on Earth, but we all know that you had many dear loved ones who were anxiously awaiting your arrival in Heaven. Enjoy them, be happy, and give them our love. You will certainly have ours forever.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday September 15, at 1 pm in Mary’s Chapel Cemetery with Pastor Tami Shoup officiating. Interment will follow.
