Paul Dale Goodman age 71 a resident of Rt. 2 Philippi passed away on Friday, November 11, 2011 at his residence. He was born November 5, 1940 in Williamsburg, WV a son of the late Millard and Ruth (McMillion) Goodman. He was married on November 4, 1974 to Joann (Ketchem) Goodman. Also surviving is,
One granddaughter, Casey Jo Cleavenger of Philippi
Two brothers, Jackie Lee Goodman and wife Barbara of Williamburg
Millard "Do" Goodman, Jr. and wife Carol of Williamburg
One son-in-law, Eddie Cleavenger of Philippi
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jamie K. Cleavenger
Paul was a member of the West Virginia State Police having served in several of the surrounding counties. He retired in 1992 with the rank of Captain with the Shinnston Detachment.
Paul was a member of Bigelow Lodge # 52 AF&AM and Tyhannon Sportsman Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors.
He attended Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church when he was a child.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Sunday, November 13, from 2-8 pm and on Monday, November 14 from 8 am-1 pm the service hour with Rev. Verlin Butcher from Williamsburg officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

We r so sorry 4 your loss of Paul, he was such a nice caring person, and was loved by so many. We pray that God will b with u in the weeks ahead 2 give u peace and comfort, we will sure miss him at the restaurant, but will always remember the good conversations we had with u guys there, may GOD bless each and everyone of u.

This man taught me the ropes from 1965 thru 1971 of Trooper WORK @ Plilipp Det. especially how to drive a cruiser in pursuit. We went our seperate ways until retirement. Then auto auctions and WVSPRMA 2009.
I will remember.

We met only once, when I came with Tobie to visit you and Joann, but you left an indelible, remarkable impression on my heart. Thank you for being Tobie's wonderful friend…and mine.

It seems like yesterday but it was 14 years ago when I saw the caring and compassionate Paul as he cared for Jamie at WVUH. He was so kind and I was so touched by his ability to handle such a difficult situation. I didn't realize the tough trooper was an LPN.
I will always remember his friendly personality, and down-to-earth manner, and the beautiful vegetable gardens he had. I remember how crazy Joanne was about this man, and may her beautiful memories comfort her.
Sorry for your loss Joann and Casey,Paul was a good man and a great friend.I think the first time I met Paul was one day I was driving my old car to work at a service station near Belington and I saw him come up behind me in his old Ford truck,when we got to a stright he went to pass me and I thought I'd race him a little so I hit the gas (even though I knew I couldn't out run him),but when he got beside me I looked over and saw the State Trooper uniform ( I didn't know he was a trooper then)and slowed down scared I was going to get a ticket,he went on by but pulled in the place I worked,nervouse I said nice truck and he just smiled and said thank you,I'll never forget that smile.Rest in peace Paul.

The nine remaining members of the Class of 1958, Williamsburg High School extend our thoughts, our prayers and our love to Jo and all family members in the loss of our dear Paul Dale. He was a wonderful person and a very special member of our class, always faithful to the WHS family, the community and everyone he knew and loved.
Always a people person, Paul never met a person that did not become a friend. He will be sorely missed by all.

I met P. G. when in college at D&E in the late 60's-early 70's. He was a delight as he enjoyed street machines and understood the work involved in having and driving one. He represented the State Police in a very positive manner.
