Phyllis Jane Stafford Moore, lovingly known by her family and friends as PJ, Philly, Sis, Mom, My Angel, Maw, Grandma, Meemee, Great Grandma, & Aunt went to be with our Lord on Sunday May 8, 2016 in Mon General Hospital in Morgantown.
Phyllis was born on March 7th, 1940 to the late Harry S Stafford, and Edith May Gay Stafford in Volga West Virginia. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Duane Edwin Moore of Clay County West Virginia; three children, Brenda Kaye Moore Jamerson, (Jeff Jamerson); Duane Wesley Moore, (Jennifer Hartje Moore); Christine Renee Moore Gunn (Craig Gunn); grandchildren Jason Paul Jamerson, (Taylor Jamerson), Casey Christine Jamerson, Mary Allyson Jamerson (Ally); Bryce Wesley Moore, Tyler Paul Moore, Rylee Grace Moore; Sarah Allyson Gunn, Emily Christine Gunn; great grand-daughter Addelynn Grace Jamerson; siblings, Robert (Bob) Stafford, Carolyn Hubert (Rich Hubert), Barb Lindsay; in-laws Ruth and Phil D’Onofrio; Christine Beaver; Guy and Jean Moore; several cousins, 2nd cousins, nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces; and her closest cousin and friend, Janet Stout.
Phyllis graduated from Philippi High School in 1958. She left her home in the hills to go to work for the FBI in Washington DC, where she met the love of her life Duane. Phyllis and Duane married on October 22nd 1961, at the Methodist Church of Volga. They built a life and family together living in 9 different states where they met many cherished friends along the way.
Phyllis was a devoted homemaker while living in Rhode Island, Washington DC, Forest Heights, MD, Decatur, GA, Memphis, TN, and St. Albans, WV. As her children matured, she entered the workforce in the schools food service industry in Richmond Va. becoming a manager and an assistant manager in Bloomington, MN. Upon retirement, Phyllis and Duane moved to Anderson, IN where they attended St. Matthew United Methodist Church. They immersed themselves into the community becoming much more than in-laws to the Jamerson family and friends. They left the Hoosier State, coming home to their Mountaineer roots, in August of 2013. Phyllis and Duane became attendees of the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church and built their final retirement home in Philippi on the land known as “Shanks Park”, where they continued to receive friends and family making precious memories. Phyllis loved Christmas and was an avid Santa Claus collector.
As with everything in her life she faced her challenges with courage, honesty, love, and faith with her champion, Duane, by her side. Her life was beautiful and her family and friends were her everything.
Friends will be recieved at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday May 13, from 1-3pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 pm with Rev. Dr. Robert Sisler officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hebron Cemetery.In lieu of flowers she asks that donations be made to the Mt. Hebron Cemetery Maintenance Fund: c/o Sylvia Nitz, 289 Hanger Rd, Belington WV 26250.
