Randall Lynn Charlton, age 77, a former resident of Brownton, WV went home to be with the Lord on Monday June 10, 2024. He passed away peacefully at the Louis A Johnson Veteran Affairs Medical Center following an extended illness. Randall was born on March 1, 1947 in Philippi, WV, the son of the late Clarence W. and Mary (Koziar) Charlton. He was blessed to be part of a large family, growing up with five siblings. Surviving are Mrs. Beatrice “Tommy” Callison of Bridgeport, Mrs. Julia Ann Stewart-Stemple of Belington, and Mr. Carl “Butch” Charlton of Ohio. He was preceded in death by siblings Mr. Clarence William Charlton Jr. and Mrs. Martha Jean Foy. Randall was united in marriage to Carolyn Sue Propst who preceded him in death on December 21, 2014. He was also preceded in death by one son William Mathew Charlton. He has two surviving children Timothy Charlton and wife Elizabeth of Oak Ridge, TN and Amanda Charlton-Fryer and husband Nick of Flemington, WV. He had two granddaughters whom he adored and brought great joy to his life Maddie and Gracie Fryer of Flemington, WV.
Randall was a graduate of Philip Barbour High School Class of 1965. He served in the United States Navy from 1967-1971 as a submariner aboard the USS Cutlass (SS478) receiving a National Defense Service Medal. He then went on to Fairmont Sate College where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering in 1974. He was a professional surveyor both working underground in the coal mine and as a land surveyor by trade but his true passion was spending time on his farm. Randall was Christian by faith. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He spent the last 10 years of his life living with his daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughters. He greatly enjoyed watching his granddaughters grow and hear about their involvement in school activities. He especially appreciated talks on the phone with his siblings, cousin Paulette Kroon, and friends as well as visits and drives with his niece Gina Stewart and close friend Jerrel Knapp. He was a loving sibling, father, Papaw, and friend and will be greatly missed.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Sunday June 16, from 12- 2 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Gina Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery with the flag presentation being presented by the US Navy.
