Life Legacy
Ray Bowers, age 92, a resident of Locust Ave. Philippi passed away Wednesday June 1, 2016 in Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born October 2, 1923 in Philippi, a son of the late Lewis Dutch and Ethel (Fridley) Bowers. Ray was united in marriage on November 26, 1948 to Vera D. (Bickel) Bowers who preceded him in death on May 31, 2014. Surviving is;
One son; Bill Bowers and wife Cheryl of Philippi
One daughter; Barbara Bowers Wright of Philippi
Four grandchildren; Chris Bowers of Clarksburg, Wendy Moats, Jordan Bowers, and Sydney Wright all of Philippi
Ray was preceded in death by three brothers; Rex, Howard, Herbert Bowers
Ray worked as a school teacher and school bus supervisor for Barbour County Schools; he was also a supervisor for Community Action. He served in the US Army during WWII, Ray was a member of the American Legion Post #44 and the VFW Post #410, and he managed Jerry’s Roofing Softball Team. He loved sports and was an avid A-B University and WVU fan. Ray was a graduate of Alderson-Broaddus College and was also in the Athletic hall of fame.
Rays request for cremation will be honored.
A celebration of Ray’s life will be held on Monday June 6, at Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi from 12- 2 pm the service hour with Speaker Danny Wagner officiating. Military honors will be accorded following the service.
