Richard George Weekley II, age 85, a resident of Volga, passed away Thursday March 13, 2025, in the United Hospital Center. George was born February 4, 1940 in Philippi, WV a son of Richard George and Nina Lee (Waddell) Weekley. George was united in marriage on April 4, 1958, to Judy (Purkey) Weekley who preceded him in death on August 13, 2021.
George was a big WVU and Steelers fan and would always follow Alderson Broaddus University basketball, he was an avid reader. George loved his family and the time they spent together; he also loved his life on the river. He took great pride in his yard, landscaping and having his place look immaculate.
George served as the first president for Jaycee’s and served as the first business manager for the Little League Baseball and Pop Warner Football. George was instrumental in starting or helping to start these programs in Barbour County. George was very involved in Barbour County where he served on various boards and positions, such as the Philippi Building Commission, City Grant Administrator, County Fiduciary Commissioner. He served on the board for Philippi Board of Trade, Barbour County Development Authority, and the Barbour Country Club.
Surviving are two daughters Krista Frey and husband Kevin of Bridgeport and Kathy Weekley of Volga; grandchildren Karly Tucci and husband Ben, Brittany Lockett, Kody Frey and fiancé Daphne Parks; great grandchildren Trey Tucci, Kingsly and Kamryn Lockett, Owen Parks, Klaire Frey; cousins Bart Waddell, Fred Nestor, and Ann Linger; several nieces, nephews, and extended river family.
George was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Nina Lee Weekley; wife Judy Weekley; and brother Lee Weekley.
In honor of George’s wishes cremation will be honored and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
