Rita Carol Wilson, age 75, a resident of Philippi passed away Friday August 10, 2018 in Ruby Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Rita was born August 23, 1942 in Barbour Co. a daughter of the late Howard and Luella (Huffman) Miller. Rita was united in marriage on July 31, 1960 to Gale R. Wilson who preceded her in death on May 26, 2003. Surviving is

Son, Randal “Radar” Wilson of Philippi

Sisters, Wanda Lea Moore and husband Glenn of Valley Furnace

Pamela Dumire and husband Kenneth of Tallmadge, OH

Brother, Paul Miller and wife Betty of Valley Furnace

Grandsons, Brett Harris of Fairmont, Ramie Harris and wife Shkeyna of Junior

Great granddaughter, Emma Harris of Fairmont

Rita retired as a Teacher’s Aide from Barbour County Schools with 30 years of service. She was a member of the Junior Lion’s Club, Haven of Hope Relay for life Team, and New Hope Valley United Methodist Church. She was very crafty and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, and embroidering. Rita was an avid gardener and enjoyed mowing and tending to her yard.

Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Sunday August 12, from 6-8 pm and on Monday August 13, from 8am- 1 pm the service hour. Interment will follow in the New Hope Valley Cemetery.

I enjoyed the column she wrote for the paper and enjoyed her telling about all the quilting and baking and things she was making for Christmas. I had never met her, but she must have been a great lady and a hard worker. I had just read her little column that she had to go into the hospital.Sorry she never made it home. Rita was my aide at Philip Barbour and she was a jewel. Talented in many ways but mostly thoughtful and kind, encouraging and a delight. It was a joy to work with her and when life would take me out 92 I would try to stop and peck on the door. Her recipe for pumpkin pudding became a birthday tradition in our family so every year I have and will continue to think fondly of her. Love to all her family
