Robert Karl McDaniel, age 92, a resident of Philippi, passed away Tuesday July 16, 2024 in the Broaddus Hospital Emergency Room. Robert was born January 30, 1932 in Philippi, a son of the late Coy and Irma Wilda (Moore) McDaniel. Robert was united in marriage on May 6, 1960 to Betty Flo (Thomas) McDaniel who preceded him in death on August 10, 2012.
Robert worked several jobs in his career, he was employed at Kines Motor Co., Haddix Garage, Griffith Inc. as a service manager, Barbour Coal Co. as a welder and mechanic, and the Department of Highways Equipment Division as a technician and mechanic specialized in heavy equipment, he retired in 2006 with 20 years of service.
Robert loved working on cars especially his Volkswagens. His friends and several people that knew Robert would travel miles just so he could service or tune their Volkswagen. Robert liked to fix and tinker with things, there was nothing he couldn’t take apart that he couldn’t put back together.
Robert was a 50 year plus member of the Bigelow Lodge #52 AF & AM, also a 33 degree Masons of Charleston Scottish Rite Bodies, member of the Red Fez Patrol, 50 years with the Scottish Rite Stage Crew, and past member with 50 years with the Director’s Staff Emeritus.
Robert served in the US Army as a Tech Cpl in the 11th Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict.
Robert is survived by sons, Robert Karl McDaniel II and wife Myranda, William Joseph McDaniel and wife Wendy; grandchildren Jordan Price and companion Darrel White, Maddi McDaniel, Kaitlyn Poling, and Mylee Poling; two great grandchildren; nephew David James McDaniel.
Robert was preceded in death by his parent s Coy and Irma McDaniel, Wife Betty McDaniel and brother James Loyd McDaniel.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday July 19, from 5-8 pm and on Saturday July 20, from 2-4 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 4pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Mary’s Chapel Cemetery with Military honors being accorded by the US Army and American Legion Post #96, also graveside rites will be conducted by the Bigelow Lodge #52 AF & AM.
