Rosaleen Daugherty

Rosaleen Davis Daugherty, age 85, of Philippi, a former resident of Union Community, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday July 11, 2016, surrounded by her family at Mon General Hospital. She had been in declining health. Rose was born (the fifteenth child) May 9, 1931, at the family home near Audra to George W. and Dora Belle (Allen) Davis. On October 9, 1947, she was united in marriage to Maynard Neal Daugherty, who preceded her in death on March 10, 2000. She is survived by four daughters: Vivian Channel and husband Ronald, Louella Mitchell and husband Mickey all of Philippi, Gwendolyn Dumire of Stafford, VA, Renata Poe and husband Clifford of Belington; two sons, Stanford Daugherty and wife Melodie of Philippi and Lance Daugherty and wife Debra of Kasson; one stepson Maynard Francis “Sam” Daugherty and companion Brenda Reed of Cleveland, OH, one sister, Betty Busing of Buckhannon, two brothers Cecil Davis of Headland, AL and Billy Davis of Youngstown, OH, 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Delora Kuhn, one son Yancy Dale Daugherty, a granddaughter, Christina Dumire Nelson, and a grandson, Antonio “Nino” Basile, five sisters and seven brothers. Mrs. Daugherty was a member of the Union Church of Christ. She was a loving care giver all of her life. After raising eight children, caring for her father-in-law, Ivan, mother-in-law, Gladys, and her disabled husband, Maynard, she volunteered as a Barbour County Senior Companion for more than 12 years. She loved gardening, quilting, and spending time with her family. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday July 15 from 5-8 pm and on Saturday July 16, from 8 am – 1 pm. Interment will follow in the Pitman Cemetery.

  3. She was truly a loving, sweet and gentle spirit. She set the example of women to follow. She smiled in spite of any hardships, she loved others more than herself, and she ALWAYS stayed committed to family and friends. I will miss her so much. Hugs and prayers to all her precious family.
