Rosalie (Rose/Annie) Virginia Jones passed away at the age of 83 on September 22nd 2024. Mrs. Jones was born in Elkins, WV January 20th 1941. Rosalie Virgina Elza, was the daughter of George Eldon Elza and Myrtle Shipley. Rose was raised as a foster child by Nori and Netti Polling on their farm in Philippi, WV and lived in Barbour County for almost all of her life. Her early beginnings instilled a strong work ethic and a sense of country common sense. A first marriage in the military took her to California, Nevada, Pennsylvania and New Jersey briefly before settling back in Philippi. Rose remarried to wonderful man, Harry Jones. Together they adventured to Florida as “snow birds” and had many years filled with travel. After Harry’s death, she eventually met and spent numerous years with Charlie Easterbrook where they moved to Florida for a few years, before returning to Philippi. Upon Charlie’s death, Rose was always on the road running errands or hanging out with her longtime friend and caretaker, Judy Simmons, who gave mom her precious Independence and brought her joy and kindness. Mom remained in Philippi and lived the rest of her remaining days in her much beloved hometown.
Rose had an infectious laugh and a love for flowers and plants. Rose also loved her pets, Nicki and Joey. She passed away peacefully of natural causes at Mansfield Nursing Home surrounded by her devoted daughters, Tammy Moury Nathan of Raleigh, NC and Penny Booth of Philippi, WV. The family greatly appreciated the kindness and caring of the staff at Mansfield. The staff there became mom’s second family and she cared for them very much.
Rose is also survived by her siblings Louise Stewart of Fairmont, WV and Elaine Standridge; grandchildren Michael Booth of Dublin, Va and Bobbie Nathan of Boston, MA. She also has a great grandchild Corbin Booth of Dublin, VA. She loved her son in-laws, Joe Booth and Matthew Nathan, who she teased and joked with endlessly. She also adored her “adopted” daughters Carrie Booth and Pam Folickman. Rose was a single mom whose whole world revolved around her family. Her favorite saying was, “If you don’t have family, you don’t have anything”. She lived her life accordingly with the love of Christ in her heart. Rose is in heaven walking, visiting her family, friends and pets, drinking decaffeinated coffee and filled with joy and laughter.
