Roy C. Smith Jr., age 90, a resident of Claude Rd. Thornton, WV passed away Tuesday January 18, 2022 at his residence. Roy was born November 6, 1931 in Barbour County at the farm, a son of the late Roy C. Smith Sr. and Ruth McIntosh Smith. Roy was united in marriage to Mary Belle (Richards) Smith from Grafton who preceded him in death. Surviving

Charles Smith and wife Carol of Manassas, VA
Eugene Smith and wife Emily of Talbot, WV
Ronald Smith and wife Kathy of Philippi

Five grandchildren, Cody, Josh, Tylynn, Nathan, Trisha, and Cardwell
Two great grandsons, Brandon Cardwell and Devon Mock
One great- great granddaughter, Brittney Cardwell

Brother, Kenny Smith of Ohio
Two Sisters, Vera Davis of Ohio and Shirley Davis of Kentucky
Foster- Brother, John Johnson of Ohio

He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Majoras and infant brother, Edgar Allen
Roy was a Dairy Farmer for 42 years, after a farming accident he went to beef cattle. He enjoyed the farm and was a member of the Mt. Morris United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday January 21, from 6-8 pm and on Saturday January 22, from 8- 11 am. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am with Rev. Jimmy Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Morris Cemetery.

David , Donnie, Ronnie, Charles and Eugene and your families this is your cousin Erma, Atha Funk's daughter. I'm very sorry to hear of the loss of your Father It was always a pleasure to visit with your Dad and David and chat for a while when we, my sister Mary and I, drove in from Ohio to put flowers on family member's graves at Mt. Morris. No matter what the age of the loved one, when they leave this world an empty place is left in our hearts and lives. They are gone but not forgotten as we'll always remember them as well as miss them. My husband, Dave, and I went to High School with your Mom. From a kid up I have many pleasant memories of spending time on the farm there, visiting Junior and David in later years, him showing us his cows and farm machinery which I always enjoyed as I love the farm and farm animals. Your Dad was a soft spoken and very special man that had a lot of love and kindness in his heart, a laugh and smile that brightened your day and left you with a feeling of 'I'm so glad I stopped to visit with him and David." Losing a parent leaves an empty place in your heart, but God in His mercy offers comfort with the promise of Eternal Life through Jesus Christ and one day you will have a joyous reunion in Heaven with your loved ones who have trusted Christ as Savior if you also have put your trust in Christ as your Savior. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. We grieve but not as those that have no hope. May God wrap His arms of Love around each of you and comfort you as only He can. I regret that I will not be able to attend your Dad's funeral and personally extend my deepest sympathy to each of you. Sending hugs and prayers and keeping each of you in my thoughts. I was so sad to hear that uncle Junior passed. I remember a calf that I named Cathy and he always kept her, and kept that name. He always worked so hard on the farm. And even made the hay bales smaller so us kids could help load them on the wagon. I am sure he is in Heaven with Aunt Mary, grandma and grandpa. And my mom, Betty. And Jerry my brother They are all celebrating that he is home with them. Sending love and prayers to David, Donny, Eugene, Charles, and Ronald

I have nothing but great memories of Uncle Jr and that twinkle in his eye when he laughed. He was always willing to show us kids everything about the farm and never acted like we were in the way or a bother. He was a very special man. Much love, many prayers and hugs to his boys & grandchildren.

My brother Junior was a very humble and honest person. He was always kind and willing to help others. We always laughed at the time he took me to see the movie, “ Old Yeller” and although my mom knew, my dad didn’t, so we had to sneak back into the house and when I got to the top step the rooster crowed and I thought it woke up my dad… but it didn’t.. I remember going to church and if he didn’t go we would come home to the smell of homemade fudge in our house. I will always remember him with love and fond memories. Love and prayers to his family

David, Donnie,Ronnie,Charles and Eugene and families this is your cousin Karen. I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am for the loss of your dad. I will always carry the memories of the summers I spent with you all when we were younger. Uncle Junior was always so nice to us. I will remember how soft spoken he was, his laugh, and his smile. I remember him showing us the baby calves and letting us pet them, which was a big deal for us city girls.Lol. You all are in our thoughts and prayers. Sending my love and hugs!
