Russell C Humphreys passed away on June 28, just shy of his 90th birthday. Russell was born on July 30, 1933, in Philippi, WV, a son of the late Franklin B. Humphreys and Ella Wilmoth Humphreys.
On August 29, 1958, Russell married Sylvia Jean Poe Humphreys. They were married for almost 64 years at the time of her passing. Russell was a dedicated husband, and a caregiver for Sylvia for many years as she faced a long battle with dementia.
Russell is survived by his daughter, Angela Lipinski of Hurricane, WV, and son Russell Kurt Humphreys (Robin) of Philippi, WV. He is preceded in death by four brothers, Joe, Dee, Ted, and Arley Humphreys, three sisters, Emma Bolton, Ada Hawley, and Jesse Bloom, and his son-in-law Robert W. Lipinski.
Russell found his greatest joy in being a Pappaw to his seven grandchildren. He is survived by Dr. Christopher Lipinski of Orinda, CA, Lauren Langley (Alex) of Scott Depot, WV, Sarah Lipinski of Hurricane, WV, Kurtis Humphreys, Kobe Humphreys, Kaden Humphreys and Konnor Humphreys of Philippi, WV.
Mr. Humphreys was resilient from the time he entered this world as a premature baby. He continued to be vibrant and enthusiastic throughout his life. He spent most of his career as a coal miner but was also known as a tire expert. He was remembered for giving $2 bills as a special treat to anyone he cared for. Mr. Humphreys was a member of Southern Baptist Church of Philippi, WV.
Family and Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory, 220 N. Walnut Street, Philippi, WV, on Monday July 3, from 6-8 pm and on Tuesday July 4, from 1- 2 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm with Pastor Jim Strawderman. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Animal Friends of Barbour County or to Hospice.
