Tommy D. Murphy, a resident of Volga, went home to be his lord and savior on Tuesday September 14, 2010 after a three month hospital stay in UMPC Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was a son of the late Everett and Eva (Duckworth) Murphy. He was united in marriage to his wife of 53 years Katheryn “Kathy” M. (Zirkle) Murphy who loved him dearly. Also surviving
One daughter: Dr. Angie Osborne and husband Paul of Orlando, FL
One son: Gregory T. Murphy of Orlando FL.
Two grandchildren who he adored Connor Thomas Osborne and Danielle Murphy.
Tommy was preceded in death by two brothers: Dale and Robert Murphy, three sisters: Edith Watkins, Louise Frey, Ruth Baughman.
He was a coal miner for 30 years at Bethlehem Mines.
Mr. Murphy served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a longtime member of Queens Chapel Church, and loved to hunt and fish.
Tommy and Kathy deeply loved to entertain and sing bluegrass, gospel and country music along with other bands.
Tommy was a wonderful husband, father and friend.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday, September 17, 2010 from 10:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m. during this time Buckhannon Mountain Bluegrass Gospel Singers will provide music. Visitation will resume on Saturday September 18, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. the service hour with Rev. Randy Simms officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
