Vera D. Bowers, age 88, a resident of Locust Ave. Philippi passed away Saturday May 31, 2014 at her residence. She was born June 8, 1925 in Replete, WV a daughter of the late Homer and Columbia (Shock) Bickel. She was united in marriage on November 26, 1948 to Ray Bowers who survives. Also surviving

Daughter, Barbara Bowers Wright of Philippi
Four grandchildren, Chris Bowers of Clarksburg, Wendy Moats of Philippi, Jordan Bowers of Philippi, Sydney Wright of Philippi
Vera was preceded in death by one sister Doris Farnsworth and an infant daughter.
Vera graduated from Webster Springs High School in 1944 and was a graduate of Alderson- Broaddus College in 1948 with a degree in education. She then taught in Webster Co. and Barbour Co. School systems for over 30 years.
She enjoyed reading, watching old movies, collecting antique books, animals, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Philippi Baptist Church, American Association of Retired Teachers, Eastern Star Chapter #41, Philippi Women’s Club and the Business and Professional Women’s Club.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Tuesday June 3, from 12- 2 pm a Memorial service will be held at 2 pm with Rev. Rick Price Officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Animal Friends of Barbour County, PO Box 452 Philippi WV 26416.







Barb, so very sorry for the loss of your Mother, she was a very kind person, and seemed to b loved by all. It will b rough for u in the days ahead, but r prayers will b with u in the days, weeks, and months ahead, God Bless u and your family.
I am sorry for the loss of your wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a very sweet women as I grew up in North Philippi. She used to come next door and pick up Miss Sturms all the time and go shopping together the were the best of friends.
But I need help with home work and Miss. Sturms was not home I would go to Mrs. Bowers and she was more than glad to help any student she could.
She was a great friend that will never forget her.
