Wilda Marie (Shaffer) Posten, former resident of Belington, West Virginia, died Thursday evening, December 11, 2014 in Sugar Land, Texas.
She was born April 10, 1926 near Philippi, a daughter of the late Bern and Lena Shaffer.
On April 16, 1949 she was married to Hugh Posten in Washington, D.C.
Surviving is her husband of 65 years, Hugh Posten, son, Donald H. Posten and wife, Diane, of Casper, Wyoming, son Larry R. Posten and wife, Cress Ann, of Sugar Land, Texas. Wilda’s grandchildren and great grandchildren are missing her sweet presence: Ami Bollinger of Longmont, Colorado, Matt Posten and wife, Jennifer, along with their children, Braden and Elaina, of Longmont, Colorado, John Posten and daughter, Serenity, of Casper, Wyoming, and Josh Posten of Sugar Land, Texas.
Wilda was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred (Shaffer) Jones and Mary (Shaffer) Holliday, and one brother, Hobert Shaffer.
Mrs. Posten graduated from Philippi High School in 1943 and attended Harding College, Searcy, Arkansas. She was a homemaker, having previously worked at the Army Pictorial Service in Washington, D.C.
She was a member of the Belington Church of Christ and was a Bible School Teacher for many years in the Washington, D.C. area.
Wilda gave her life to Christ and was baptized November 30, 1941 in a creek near Valley Dell at the age of fifteen.
Wilda loved the Lord. Her life was invested in worshiping Him and living for Him. She possessed a heart of quiet service, dedicated to influencing others for Christ.
“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.’ Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Tuesday December 16, from 10 -11 am funeral services will be conducted at 11 am with Speaker Ronald Holbert. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.
