William (Bill) Eugene Knight, Sr., 81, of Brushy Fork Community, Route 1 Bridgeport, passed away on May 18, 2009 at United Hospital Center. He was born July 10, 1927 in Harrison County, a son of the late Charles Eugene Knight and Flora Elsie (Steir) Knight. He was twice married first on June 1945 to, Bernadine (Stanfil) Knight, who preceded him in death on March 31, 1978.
He was united in marriage to his second wife on Jan 13, 1979, Blanche (Mouser) Knight; 4 sons, William Knight, Jr. (wife Elaine) of North Carolina, Charles W. Knight (Barbara White) of Rt. 1 Bridgeport, Bernard Knight of Philippi, and Eugene Knight of Rt.1 Bridgeport; 5 daughters Rebecca Knight of Randolph County, Cheryl Ball (husband Sterling) of Davis, Cindy Rollins (husband Gary) of Philippi, Flora Cox (husband Bryan), and Patricia Freeman (husband Chad) of Fairmont; 1 stepson, Randall Mouser (wife Shawna) of Berkley County; and 2 sisters, Betty Hooper of Maryland, and Ruby Davidson of Ohio.
He is also preceded in death by a son, David Knight; a stepson, Marcus Bouton; three grandchildren; Rebecca Rollins, Lori Knight, and Logan Hardin, 4 sisters, Eva Harbert, Adeline Harbet, Beulah Hutson, and Anna Allen; 1 brother, Fred Knight; and 3 stepbrothers, James Carrico, Willard Carrico, and Edward Carrico.
Bill had 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 4 great, great-grandchildren; and 3 step-grandchildren. He also raised a niece Margaret Parks; a grandson, Robert Knight for eight years, and a great-grandson, Zachary Knight still at home.
Bill served in the US Army in World War II and was a member of the VFW in Belington. He worked at Grafton Coal Company, Barbour Coal Company, and retired from C&W Coal Company in 1992, and received his GED in 1993. He was a member of the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church and president of the Brushy Fork Senior Citizens. He worked with the Volga PSD to get water into the Brushy Fork area. Bill was an avid hunter, fisher, and gardener.
Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi, WV on Wednesday May 20, from 3-8:00 p.m. and on Thursday May 21, from 8:00 a.m. -2:00 p.m. the service hour with Rev.
