Resided in: Shinnston, West Virginia

Allen Leroy Wilmoth, 85, of Shinnston, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Elison Independent & Assisted Living in Bridgeport, with his loving wife by his side.

Born on February 27, 1941, in Elliston, Virginia, he was the son of the late Raymond Wilmoth and Virginia (Everson) Wilmoth.

On June 1, 1963, Leroy was united in marriage to the love of his life, RuthEllen (Davis) Wilmoth, with whom he shared more than 63 wonderful years of love, faith, and devotion.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children: Leeta Denise Louk and husband, Don, of Madison, Virginia; Lisa “DeeDee” Jones and husband, Joe, of Fairmont; and Curtis Brent Wilmoth and wife, Deedee (Walker), of Morgantown. He was a proud grandfather to Megan Drew and husband, Steve, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Kyle Louk and wife, Cynthia Liang, of Washington, D.C.; and Brody Michael Wilmoth of Morgantown.

He is also survived by his sisters, Ellen Brookes and husband, Bill, of Indiana, and Naomi Carr and husband, Gene, of Parkersburg; several nieces and nephews; his special friend, Lum Coleman of Kingsport, Tennessee; and a host of close friends, former co-workers, and neighbors.

Leroy devoted 34 years to the coal mining industry, where he earned the distinction of becoming the first longwall foreman in the State of West Virginia. Throughout his career, he helped set two coal production records and was widely respected for his leadership, dedication, and work ethic.

A faithful Christian, Leroy was a member of Bridgeport Church of Christ and formerly attended Barbour Church of Christ. His faith was the foundation of his life and guided him in all that he did.

Leroy enjoyed many of life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time at the beach, cheering on the West Virginia Mountaineers, and watching baseball, especially his beloved Cincinnati Reds. Above all, he cherished his grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. He was known for his outgoing personality, his love of visiting with friends, and the many coal mining stories he delighted in sharing. His warm smile, quick wit, and genuine kindness will be remembered by all who knew him.

Family and friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday with Evangelist Danny Wagner officiating.
