Edgar Brown, age 75, of Philippi, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Tygart Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Belington.
He was born in Philippi, a son of the late Edgar C. Brown and Daisy V. (Scott) Brown. Edgar was united in marriage for 55 years to Doretta Brown, who survives.
Edgar was a graduate of Philip Barbour High School, Class of 1969. Following high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. During his military service, he was stationed in Thailand near the end of the Vietnam War, where he packed drag chutes for B-52 bombers and personnel chutes for pilots and navigators.
Following his military service, Edgar worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier for 16 years, then in maintenance for the remainder if his 32 years of service. Â He took great pride in his work, and on his first route, he walked approximately 11 miles.
Edgar was very active in Civil War reenacting for more than 30 years as a member of the Barbour Grays. He served as Captain and was also a longtime member of the Blue and Gray Reunion, serving as co-chairman from 1991 until 2020 with Terry Wilfong. His dedication to preserving the history and traditions of the Civil War era was an important part of his life.
He was a member of Bigelow Lodge #52 A.F. & A.M. and Royal Arch, and was a Past Master of the Blue Lodge. Edgar was also a member of Philippi Chapter #41 Order of the Eastern Star for more than 30 years. He was a member of Crim United Methodist Church.
Edgar is survived by his wife, Doretta Brown; son, Patrick Wayne Brown and wife Nora, grandchildren Andrew Brown, Caitlin Brown, Paige Preston, four great grandchildren and one expected great grandchild; daughter Melissa Kay Miller and husband Scott; step grandchild Mikey Miller; and beloved grand dog Goose; brother Frederick Brown and wife Judy; sisters Norma Poling and husband Ky, Brenda Smith and late husband Tony; and several other family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Crim United Methodist Church 78 Pike St. Philippi, WV 26416, or to Belington American Legion Post #96 PO Box 836 Belington, WV 26250.
A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday September 20, 2026 in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Sam Haught officiating. Bigelow Lodge #52 with be conducted graveside rites, military honors will be conducted by the US Airforce and American Legion Post #96.

Sweetheart, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your soulmate. Ed was a great guy and I am proud to say I knew him. I loved talking to him about sports and hunting. He was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather and a great friend to many, many people. Kay, he really loved you and his family. Remember his last breath on earth was his first breath in heaven.
