Eric Kevin Lantz

September 21, 1953 ~ September 14, 2026

Born in: Philippi, West Virginia
Resided in: Philippi, West Virginia

Eric Kevin Lantz, age 72, a lifelong resident of Philippi, passed away Monday, September 14, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family and close friends, following a courageous battle.

Kevin was born September 21, 1953, in Philippi, a son of the late William “Bud” and Vonda Lee “Boots” Lantz.

A carpenter by trade, Kevin spent his entire working life doing what he knew and loved. He was the owner and operator of Kevin’s Konstruction for more than 20 years, and his work can be found throughout the area. Kevin was a talented craftsman who knew how to build or fix just about anything, but he was perhaps even better known for his willingness to help. If someone needed a hand, Kevin was the kind of person who would do what he could to be there.

Away from work, Kevin was happiest on the farm. Farming was much more than a pastime to him; it was a way of life that he truly loved. He also enjoyed tending his garden and sharing the fruits of his hard work with those around him. Above all, Kevin treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Kevin also had a special place in his heart for the youth of Barbour County. He quietly and generously supported young people in the community in many ways over the years, whether through donations, purchasing their projects, or opening his farm for judging practices. He believed in encouraging young people and was always willing to provide an opportunity, a place to learn, or a helping hand

Kevin is survived by his children, Wes Lantz and wife Amanda, Vonda Lantz, Mark Tenney and wife Katherine, Danny Tenney, and Fred Tenney and wife Susan; grandchildren, Layne Lantz and fiancée Natalie Bolyard, Preston Lantz, Brianna and Katelyn Tenney, Devon Tenney, and Nathan, Joe, and Greg Tenney; great-grandchildren, Lucas Ki Tenney and Rory Tenney; sisters, Teresa Lantz Smith and husband Donnie Smith, and Lesa Schiefelbein and husband Tom; his faithful K-9 companion, Izzabell; and special friend, Carolyn Waddell.

In addition to his parents, Kevin was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Margaret Tenney; grandson, Cody Lantz Dye; and brother, Randy Lantz.

The family will welcome friends at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday September 18, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm and again on Saturday September 19, from 10:00 to 1:00 pm.  A reflection of Kevin’s life will begin at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.  Kevin will be laid to rest in the Tacy Crossroads Cemetery.
