Geneva Lorraine Layne

Geneva Lorraine Layne, age 97, a resident of Tygart Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center and a former resident of the Mt. Liberty Community, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
Geneva was born on December 24, 1928, in Philippi, a daughter of the late Thomas and Bertha (Daugherty) Holbert.
She was united in marriage to her loving husband on June 5, 1948 to Richard C. Layne Sr., who preceded her in death in 2006.
Geneva was a woman who found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed crocheting, spending quiet moments working crossword puzzles, and losing herself in a good book. She also had a special fondness for her feline companions, whom she lovingly cared for. Geneva was a member of the Barbour Church of Christ, where her faith was an important part of her life.
Geneva is survived by her son, Richard Layne and wife Lisa; grandchildren, Shaun Scott, Angelina Layne, Christina Layne, Revita Redden, and Salima Johnson; and great-grandchild, River Sauer.
In addition to her parents and husband, Geneva was preceded in death by her daughter, Cathy Layne; grandson, Sean Thornton; brothers, Herbert Holbert and Thomas Holbert; and sister, Virginia Leahy.
