Leroy Junior Newman

Leroy Junior Newman, 59, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

Born on July 24, 1966, in Philippi.

Leroy is survived by his loving daughter, Amber Stripling and her husband, Cody, of Buckhannon; step daughter Patty Snyder of Elkins,

his cherished grandchildren, Gregory and Marissa Stripling of Buckhannon; his former wife, Barbara Newman of Weston; his companion, Stacy Buckhannon of Lost Creek; his sisters, Darlene Newman, widow of the late Charles, and Mary Miller, widow of the late Tony; his brother, Frankie Newman and his wife, Ursula; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends who will deeply miss him.

In addition to his parents, Carney Newman and Eileen Mayle he was preceded in death by his brother, Kirk Douglas Newman.

Leroy was an equipment operator throughout his career. He worked for Cove Run Contracting for many years and was currently employed by Carl Johnson Paving. He took great pride in his work and was known as a dependable and hardworking employee.

He enjoyed spending time outdoors and could often be found riding his four-wheeler, hunting, fishing, swimming, or attending family cookouts. He especially loved working in his greenhouse and tending to his garden. Above all, Leroy treasured the time he spent with his family. He had a goofy sense of humor that brought laughter to those around him and will be remembered for his kind heart, love of the outdoors, and the joy he found in life’s simple pleasures.

Family will receive friends at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi, on Sunday July 5, from 12:00-5:00 pm and on Monday July 6, from 12:00- 2:00 pm.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm with Speaker Kirk Collins and Lay Speaker Bill Berdine officiating.  Leroy will be laid to rest in the Welch Cemetery.
