Terry Lee Brown, known to many as “Uncle Buck,” age 70, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026, at United Hospital Center, He was born on December 29, 1955, in Gouverneur, New York, a son of the late Bruce A. Brown and Alice J. (Woodrow) Brown.
Terry was a dedicated public servant who devoted many years of his life to serving others through emergency services. He served as Chief of Department for Teays Valley Fire Department in Putnam County and was a respected instructor and trainer for EMS personnel and firefighters. Throughout his career, Terry traveled across West Virginia assisting numerous departments, providing guidance, education, and support to those committed to protecting their communities.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Terry will be remembered for his unique personality, quick wit, and ability to bring joy to those around him. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. Terry found enjoyment in riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, watching videos about how things were built, and listening to the scanner. He was a man of many interests who valued the friendships and connections he made throughout his life. Terry had a tremendous love for animals.
Terry was united in marriage to Kylene Dunlap in 1982 and though parted ways they remained the best of buds. Terry is survived by his brother, Jim Brown and Deborah Sliger; nephew, Stevie Knight and wife; niece, Michelle Daugherty and husband Scot; adopted niece, Mary “Milkbone” Stanley; great-nephew, Ethan Knight and wife Erin; great-nephew, Liam Daugherty; great-niece, Darcy Knight; and great-great-niece, Tootsie. Special friends Steve Baxter and Carlene Smith.
In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by his sister, Norma Shaw, and her husband, Steven M. Shaw, nephew Robert James Shaw
The family will receive friends at Wright Funeral Home and Crematory, 220 N. Walnut Street, Philippi, WV, on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., with Terry’s close friend and colleague, Allan Casto, and James “Bink” Mooney, presiding.

RIP Terry.
Terry, was such a good friend in our Satewide 911 community for years. So funny at our Conferences, serious to help the State’s WV911 Council started, passionate about instruction for Emergency Response teams, whether it was 911, EMS, LE, or Fire. Terry will be missed.

It is truly a sad day for all of us that knew and worked with Terry. Terry, worked with Marshall Moore during the (Yellow Shirt) days at Charleston EMS, and man what a crew. They were a great team as Paramedics and of course, Terry was big in Auto Extrication and Firefighting. I remember when Terry and Kylene were married, they were a great couple as well as, friends. I will always remember Terry for his quick wit and friendly character. God needed another good Paramedic and Firefighter. I know he went to heaven shouting to see his mother, hug Jerry Lee for me. Terry was an amazing medic and great friend. He was always available as a friend, and make a difference wherever he went. He came in as a hero when needed and left as a friend.
