Albert George Carman, age 86, a resident of Good Samaritan Center peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2012. He was born January 22, 1926 in Philippi a son of the late Charles William Carman Sr. and Opal (Snider) Carman. He was united in marriage to Ina Jean (Chenoweth) Holbert who survives. Mr. Carman was preceded in death by wife Edith (Haddix) Carman, son Rodney Carman, wife Philena (Green) Carman, son Albert Goerge Carman, Jr. brothers Charles William Carman, Jr. and James Robert “Bob” Carman.
Albert was a master watchmaker and proprietor of Carman’s Jewel Box for 47 years. He graduated from the Bowman Technical School in Lancaster, PA and was a member of the Philippi Baptist Church, the Royal Arch Masons, the Bigelow Lodge #59 AF & AM, and the Knights Templar DeMolay Commandery, American Legion Post # 44. Albert was a decorated WWII veteran with the US Army.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Friday July 27, from 5-8 pm military services will be conducted at 7:30 pm. Visitation will resume Saturday July 28, from 8-11 am at which time a service celebrating Albert’s life will be held with Rev. Holli Rainwater officiating. A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
