On September 25, 2023 Heaven’s gates were open wide for the STRONGEST, FIESTIEST, MOST WONDERFUL AND LOVING Woman to enter in. Barbara Ann Tenney, was born on October 28, 1938 in Volga, WV to the late Walter Gerald McCoy and Hildred May Workman McCoy. After the death of her dad, she helped her Mom raise her 3 sisters and brother. Pat (Larry) Mick, the late Judy (Bill) Champ, Jane (Bill) Mick and John (Barb) McCoy.
On December 23, 1956, Barb was married to the late F. Gail Burner. They were the parents of Nancy (Ted) Burner-Ware, Becky (Mike) Sands and Mark (Tammy) Burner. On February 10, 1996, Barb married Dayton Tenney, who survives. She was a stepmother to Rusty Tenney.
Barb was the best Grandma, to Jason Gower, Erik Gower, Brianne Gower Allen, Jared Burner, and Nathan Burner. She was a 2nd mom to these 5 grandchildren as well as to Chad and Josh Zirkle. She was also Grandma to Joey and Jennifer Ware, Jennifer Gillispie, Dylan Sands, Alex and Gia Musil. Also surviving are several Step-Grandchildren and Step-Great Grandchildren.
The greatest love and most joyful moments in Barb’s life was her Great-Grand Children, who called her “Mimi”. She lived for the days that they came to spend the week, the night or the day with her and Pappy. Isabella and Brynlee Allen, Hazel and Mary Ella Gower, Teddy and Lily Ware and Abbie Zirkle put the sparkle and laughter in her life.
Barb was all about family, raising a good garden and loved mowing her lawn which she was still doing up until June of 2023 at age 84.
When she married Gail, she gained a lot (11) of brothers and sisters. Surviving Sister-in-Law’s are Beverly Poe, Jacky Malcolm and Wilda Burner. Brother-in-Law Charlie Malcolm. She also gained another big family in her marriage to Dayton and is survived by Sister-in-Law, Carolyn Tenney. She is also survived by many Nieces and Nephews and friends that knew her as Aunt Barb.
The highlight of Barb’s year was her Annual Seafood Dinner at Christmas time. This event was her favorite time of the year as she hosted as many as 50 to 60 guests at her home to enjoy a feast of her specialty “Fried Oysters and Beer Broiled Shrimp”. Nothing made her happier than to have a house and patio full of family and friends for this event.
Barb was owner and operator of Barb’s Beauty Shop for over 30 years. Before opening her own shop, she worked with her niece, Lynnette (Bunny) Poling Jones. She loved being a beautician and at the age of 84 was still cutting Dayton and Becky’s hair.
