Herman Jackson “Jack” Whitacre, Jr., age 75, a resident of Barbour County Highway, Belington, WV departed this life on Sunday July 14, 2019 at his home from a short battle with lung and liver cancer. He was born March 28, 1944 in Martinsburg, WV a son of the late Herman J. and Dorothy (Murphy) Whitacre. Jack was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Jack is survived by two daughters, Michelle R. Schoppert and husband Jeffrey
Wendie E. Miller and husband Jamey
Two grandsons, Matthew Aaron. Miller and Jacob A. Riner
Along with other family members and many friends.
He leaves behind one very special friend, Crystal Tenney, which is left to cherish memories of Jack and the trusting relationship they had. Doris Myers, Crystal Hess, Valerie and Rick Williams and neighbor Tom Evix were also good friends that made his battle with cancer much more tolerable.
In addition to his parents, Jack was also preceded in death by one son, Michael D. Whitacre and infant daughter, Jackie Lynn Whitacre.
Jack served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam Era and was retired from I.B.E.W.L.U #113 as a master electrician.
Jack loved to sit on his front porch and watch traffic while smoking cigarettes. He also enjoyed talking and joking with friends in need, and spending time with his poodle Brindle, until he passed in 2017. Jack was a wonderful friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
There will be no public viewing, in honor of Jack’s request he will be buried at the Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg, WV.
