James Albert “Redbird” Strahin, age 81, a resident of Philippi passed away Saturday December 30, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Albert was born August 20, 1942 in Tera Alta, WV a son of the late Arthur Filmore and Sarah Alice (McDaniel) Strahin. Albert was united in marriage on September 2, 1970 to Willa Rose (Moore) Strahin who survives at home.
Albert served in the US Army. He was a retired Coal Miner. He was a former member of the VFW of Kingwood. Albert enjoyed fishing, hunting, and checking his deer camera. He loved spending time with his grandchildren as well as other children entertaining them. When it came time for his grandchildren to learn to drive, he considered it his duty to teach them and did so when he took them to school each day. Albert also grew a garden; he shared his garden with people when he made his daily visits to town.
Surviving is children; Kelly Joe Strahin and wife Melissa, Robert Lynn Strahin and wife Cynthia, Marrissa Strahin and husband Mark Haddix, Sarah Kelley and husband Thad, Daniel Ray Strahin and late wife Yvonne; grandchildren Heaven, Samantha and Jessica Strahin, Nicholas and Vanessa Kelley, Isaac Cleavenger, Austin and Aubrey Strahin, and Willow Norris; Great grandchildren, Mila Rae and Atreus Robert Strahin; siblings Clara Hipp, Mary Crow and husband Oscar, Ralph Strahin; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Sarah Strahin, daughter-in-law Yvonne (Hall) Strahin, and 11 brothers and sisters.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and on-site Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Monday January 1, from 6-8 pm and on Tuesday January 2, from 10 am- 1 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm with Rev. Geneva Mayle and Luwana Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery with military honors being accorded by WV Honor Guard and Belington American Legion Post #96.
