Roger Lee Kelley, age 79, a resident of Philippi, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday October 20, 2022. Roger was born September 10, 1943 in Philippi, a son of the late Charles Wayne and Mary Elma (Phillips) Kelley. Roger was united in marriage on June 22, 1968 to the love of his life Mary (Hamlin) Kelley who survives at home. Also surviving daughters, Patricia Bradley and husband Terry, and Rhonda Talbott and husband Brian. Grandchildren- Shawn Kelley, whom thought of his pap as his dad, Adam Mayle and wife Samantha, Taylor P. Talbott, Tanner Talbott and companion Allison Phillips, Trey Bradley; step-grandchildren, Beau Bradley and wife Samantha, Celeste Goodnight and husband Andy, and Alexis Robinson. Great grandchildren, Parker S. Kelley, and Adeline “Addi” Talbott, step-great grandchildren, Harmonie, Remington, Kyrah, Gracie, and Colt.
Brothers, Robert “Mick” Kelley and wife Nettie, Tom Kelley, sister, Carolyn Taylor and late husband Bill Taylor; Mother-in-law Eileen Rodriguez Hamlin; Brother-in-law Arthur Hamlin, and also several nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law, Alice Ann Carpenter and husband Tom, half-sister Marlyn Lantz and husband Denzil, father-in-law James F. Hamlin, Sr. and brother-in-law, James F. Hamlin, Jr.
Roger worked as a coal miner, having worked for Fairfax Fuel, Sago Mines, and Badger Coal Company.
Roger enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his hunting buddy Tanner, he was his best- friend. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and loved his red GTO. Roger was a graduate of Philippi High School class of 1963.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home and Crematory 220 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Sunday October 23, from 5-8 pm and on Monday October 24, from 8 am- 1 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm with Pastor Bryan Headley officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Silent Grove Church c/o Jeff Nida PO Box 243 Philippi, WV 26416.
